★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: Yelena was an adult before she could be a child. She has a fully developed self-preservation and a dry sense of humor. She is also bold, and she lacks tact at times. She can cook and do laundry, and she can also drive. She has a dog so that she can take care of an animal. She can also cook and has a deft hand with hot sauce.

Canon Abilities:
  • Master Assassin: Yelena was trained in the Red Room to eliminate any necessary threats both to her and the people that she worked for..

  • Master Martial Artist/fighter: It is shown in canon that she is an expert fighter due to her training in the Red Room. Yelena knows many different fighting styles. She is also an expert knife handler, staff holder, and marksman.

  • Pilot: Yelena is shown to be able to fly most military-grade planes.

  • Role: Which role will you put them in? Familiar
Role Qualities/Attributes: Yelena will be a Black Russian Terrier. The dogs were made from seventeen different breeds by the Russian Army in the 1940s, trained to take down prisoners. Yelena was trained as a Widow for much the same purpose. She will be keeping the dog ears and the enhanced hearing. The ears are the only part of the dog that stays constant. She will manifest different traits depending on her mood. If she gets angry, her paws come out, but she hasn't done a complete transformation.
Role Reasoning: Yelena is a character who lives in a morally grey area. She isn't good, but she isn't bad either. She has done bad things thanks to her training and the drug she received from Drakov in the red room. Yelena also lost five years of her life due to Thanos and the Snap, so she is still trying to figure out her place in the world. She struggles with Natasha's death all of her waking moments, and while she doesn't complete her mission to kill Clint, she is still dealing with losing her sister. Yelena's world is no longer black and white but currently has varying shades of grey.
    ★ Personality ★

Option 1. "The greatest child assassin the world has ever known" were words that were spoken directly to Yelena, yet it was something that Yelena would never have chosen for herself. She had always craved the freedom that her sister had attained by defecting. Instead, she stayed put, training and working, developing a pessimistic attitude towards life and the world. Yelena never wanted to use sarcasm and straight-faced humor to deal with her life. She felt that humor and sarcasm were the only ways she could deal with the disappointment of being left behind.
Despite how the Red Room molded her, Yelena is a more complex person. She is cynical, but she somehow also remains hopeful. She believes there is a future where she can live on her terms and own a dog if she wants to. She never wants bad things to happen; she hopes things will be good again. She may be pessimistic on the outside, but she is hopeful. Yelena had a great deal of faith in Natasha, which is why she gave the antidotes to her, trusting that her older sister would know what to do. She is somewhat bitter but trying to be better.

Yelena does have a moral compass; it's just bent. She is driven and likes to take the shortest route to her goals. For instance, she was holding a man at gunpoint, threatening to kill him instead of figuring out an easier way. Asking nicely is not something that even occurred to Yelena. She told Natasha, "You don't need to be nice if you're about to die." Her way of doing things isn't always as messed up as it might seem. She knows the difference between doing a good thing and doing something terrible. She chooses the gray area more often than not. A prime example is when she stole a car so she and Natasha could escape. While technically, she knew that stealing was terrible, she justified it as essential to her survival and that no one had gotten hurt. Yelena feels deep remorse for everything she was made to do under Dreykov's control, so she fights tooth and nail with Natasha to stop the Red Room. She wants everyone to feel the freedom she has found since getting the antidote. Her moral compass may need a little work, but it's not something a lot of therapy couldn't fix.

Her family is the main force that drives Yelena to act as she does. She distrusts almost everyone in her path except her "family" growing up in Ohio. She regards them with the fiercest loyalty she possesses. She believes with her whole heart and soul that what they had in Ohio was real. Even as an adult, after everything she experienced, she thought she still had a family in Natasha. She became visibly upset when Natasha told her it wasn't real and kept repeating, "it was real to me." over and over. She allowed herself to be comforted by her "Father," Alexei, to comfort her with the song American Pie. She is willing to forgive and forget much more quickly the longer she has had the relationship. Yelena fell victim to the snap in New York, trying to find Natasha. She was washing her hands, and suddenly, she was missing five years of her life. She is in a loop of trying to make someone pay for Natasha's death. She is under the misconception that she could have stopped her somehow. She is only now coming to terms with a world with Natasha in it; it's a work in progress.
